Directed by Jacques Becker. At a police academy in Calcaras, two young cadets, Clarence and Montès, are vying for a promotion. They are equally well-suited for a more senior grade and to decide between them their superior assigns them to a mysterious murder case. A woman (Mireille Balin) has just been arrested at the Hotel Babylonia, having apparently shot a man dead. After the murder victim is identified as the notorious gangster Toni Amanito, Clarence's investigation leads him to a rival gang led by Rudy Score. To unmask Amanito's killer, Clarence must inveigle his way into Score's gang by assisting in the recovery of a haul of stolen banknotes...
