Description

This is a region-free DVD-R without case or artwork.

In Italian with English subtitles.

The film's title translates to 'Sunday in August'.

Domenica D'Agosto was the first feature-length effort from Italian documentary filmmaker Luciano Emmer, and takes a nostalgic look at a typical midsummer Sunday at a Roman seaside resort in Ostia. As with most Italian neorealist films, a cast of professional actors mingles with carefully chosen nonprofessionals to illustrate a series of perceptive vignettes about big-city vacationers and Roman life at the time. Such is the consummate skill of the director and his screenwriters (including the ubiquitous Cesare Zavattini) that it's difficult for the audience to determine where the scripted scenes end and the "real" scenes begin. This is Mastroianni's first screen appearance of note, as a kind-hearted traffic cop.

I was truly impressed with the quality of picture and fidelity of sound of this copy of Domenica d' Agosto. The sub titling was crisp and clear and was faithful to an actual English translation of the original Italian spoken word (Except for the cursing...uh-hum !.).Based on this film's viewing I have ordered a number of other titles from MovieDetective.Net.  Ben fatto mio amici !.

5 of 5 WONDERFUL SITE! March 26, 2020
Reviewer: PAUL BARRETT from LITITZ, PA United States
I have purchased several dozen movies from here over the last few months & I have yet to be disappointed. Every vintage foreign film (mainly French or Italian) I have watched has been excellent in every way - video clarity, sound, and especially the hard-to-find clear & well-translated English captions that one can seldom find on sites like Amazon.

5 of 5 Il Duce November 20, 2013
Reviewer: Harvey Clark Greisman from Wilmington, DE United States
The director was once commissioned to make a documentary about Mussolini's hometown: It opened with Death entering the Duce's birthplace. After returning from exile, and prior to getting in trouble again thirty years later, Luciano Emmer filmed movies like this. It's billed as a comedy, and it sort of is, with lots of non-actors. But poignant, moving. and inspired.
