Description

This is a region-free DVD-R without case or artwork.

In German with English subtitles.

The original German title of this film is, "Es Geschah am Hellichten Tag." "It Happened in Broad Daylight" is an austere but shocking story of the hunt for a human monster. A forest community is terrorized by a child murderer, who -  per the title - strikes in broad daylight. Whereas such a criminal might be more easily tracked down in the confines of a big city, the village police are obliged to comb miles and miles of mountains and wooded wilderness. A detective (Heinz Ruhmann) goes undercover to trap the murderer, posing as a workman with a wife (actually a local widow) and child. Veteran French character actor Michel Simon briefly appears as a suspect in this film, one of the more accomplished European suspensers of the 1950s.

4 of 5 Well executed. A good addition to my collection. April 30, 2020

Quality of DVD, very good. Acting, par for the decade. Amusing musical flashes - fast forward to 'Airplane!' (apologies) - ahead of its time in some respects as to social issues.  Nice showing of   Frobe pre-Goldfinger and 'Paris Burning'   I Appreciate this quaint jewel.

5 of 5 Bizarre police methods July 3, 2019
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Homestead, FL United States
Here a police detective investigates a case on his own employing a method, far from ethical, in order to lure the criminal to a tramp   I had read  Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s novel “The Pledge” on which this movie is based, where  the criminal is not caught  and the ending, which personally I prefer, is darker and disturbing.  Anyway, the movie keeps us hooked all along and the cast is superb.  Actually not to be missed.
