Widescreen. Banned for over a decade for its outspoken criticism of the post-WWII communist regime in Hungary, Péter Bacsó's The Witness has since then achieved unparalleled cult status in its native land. Its candid and realistic portrayal of the incompetent communist regime has earned great acclaim for both the director and the film itself when it was shown at Cannes Film Festival in 1981. 5 of 5 outstanding satire of Communist Misgovernment February 16, 2015
Reviewer: Kenneth Orme from Ligonier, PA United States
Peter Bacso's A TANU (THE WITNESS) is a frequently hilarious lampooning of Hungary's Communist rulers, showcasing the absurdity of rule by slogans and ideological purity. Acting is deadpan and effective, photography fine, music superior.
