Director Manoel De Oliveira films the annual Passion Play put on by residents of a small country town in Portugal. The villagers are shown working the land before changing into their costumes and performing in front of tourists. Film footage of atomic bomb explosions towards the end of the feature is used effectively to show man's inhumanity against man.
