This is a region-free DVD-R without case or artwork.

In Italian with English subtitles. The original Italian title of this film is 'Bello, Onesto, Emigrato Australia Sposerebbe Compaesana Illibata,' which translates to 'Handsome, Honest Emigrant in Australia would Marry Chaste Fellow Countrywoman'.

Amedio (Alberto Sordi) is a telephone lineman who works in remote parts of Australia. Unfortunately, for this shy, homely Italian man, all of Australia is remote. He wants a wife, and arranges for one by mail. The woman he has chosen is Carmela (Claudia Cardinale), a beautiful prostitute who seeks to retire from her profession. The picture he sends her to induce her to come to Australia wasn't of himself, but of his handsome buddy Giuseppe (Riccardo Garrone). The picture convinces her to make the long trip to Australia, but when she arrives and meets Amedio, she says she won't go through with the marriage because she wants Giuseppe. How will he be able to satisfy Carmela and still marry her?

What a find this is. The glorious Claudia Cardinale in a picaresque romp through the Australian Outback in the age of post World War 2 mass migration mail order Italian brides to Australia. A big hit in Italy it passed without a ripple in Australia. The characterisation is first rate, the acting effortless and the story - very funny. Picture quality is very good, subtitles easy and clear to read and the service delivery was first rate.

4 of 5 Sordi and Cardinale--a perfect match August 5, 2013
Reviewer: Gary Whalen from Colleyville, TX United States
Seeing Sordi and Cardinale together is a treat.  Sordi--no surprise--expresses both a depth of character and range of emotion that seem just right, not too little not too much, in his protrayal of an Italian immigrant living and working in Australia who searches for a bride.  The surprise, and fun, is seeing Claudia Cardinale keep up with him.  To see her go from sweet to vicious and back to sweet (in a matter of seconds) is something to behold.
