The original title of this film is A Pál Utcai Fiúk. Zoltán Fábri's The Boys of Paul Street is an antiwar allegory set in the streets of Budapest. Two rival gangs of young boys lay claim to a vacant lot. The hostilities escalate yet never quite boil over into actual violence. Just when things do get out of hand, however, the problem is "solved" by the city government, which takes over the lot for future development. Based on a story by Ferenc Molnar, The Boys of Paul Street was filmed in Hungary then picked up for American distribution by 20th Century-Fox.

5 of 5 The place for hard-to-find movies January 1, 2019
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Los Angeles, CA United States
This is definitely a genuine, reputable place on the web to find obscure, foreign and art-audience films. Seriously wide-ranging catalog.

Haven't seen movie yet, so, I can't evaluate quality but delivery was prompt. Recommended for hardcore film buffs, film history researchers and plain folks looking for that elusive favorite movie.

4 of 5 Mock War and an Oscar Nomination July 12, 2016
Reviewer: Chris Kuykendall from Austin, TX United States
An Oscar nomination for Best Foreign-Language Film, currently with an IMDb weighted-average rating of 8.1. A VHS release from the 1990s is very rare, so MovieDetective does another good job of making a quality film available. Set in Budapest, 1902. Rival boyhood gangs, before their mothers call them to supper, stage civilized mock war for possession of a vacant-lot playground.
