As we become aware of the hardships endured by iron miners, we also become aware of a growing dissatisfaction in Flore - although she loves her husband, she's bored, and has become aware of time passing to little effect. When a newcomer to the town, Constant (Clément Duhour) takes her to a cave he calls his 'house beneath the sea', she begins falling in love with him, even as Constant and Lucien become friends...This film marked Anouk Aimée's film debut at the age of 14.
