Set during WW II, the film charts the adventures of Jan Baalsrud (Jack Fjeldstad), the sole survivor of a Norwegian commando unit. Trapped behind enemy lines, the hero tries to reach the safety of neutral Sweden. Despite the ongoing threat of execution -- not to mention the devastating deadliness of the Norwegian winter -- Baalsrud is aided and abetted by several sympathetic Norwegian patriots. The finale finds Baalsrud somewhere in Lapland, where salvation arrives in a most unexpected fashion. Ni Liv was one of the hits of the 1958 Cannes Film Festival.
