Based on a play by Helge Krog, On the Sunny Side was one of Gustav Molander's most popular films. Lars Hanson stars as wealthy Harold Ribe, who steals naïve provincial girl Eve (Ingrid Bergman) away from lothario novelist Joachim Brink (Edvin Adolphson). Feeling that Eve lacks sophistication, Harold introduces him to his city friends, only to find himself battling for the girl's attentions with another man. Meanwhile, Brink finds solace in a romance with Harold's sister Kajsa (Marianne Lofgren).

A rare Bergman treat
I don't know why I enjoy watching people get slapped in the face, but I do. DVD came unmarked in a slip within a cardboard slip. Had On the Sunny Side printed on a little label. DVD worked great, subtitles and all. Menu included play, scene selection, and audio/subtitle(s) selection. The movie itself was typical Bergman fare: how many guys can she vamp? Three? early bergman!
a super rare one that i had almost given up on finding until i saw it was available here. and even rarer because she is speaking german. (still blows my mind that she was completely fluent in swedish and german before learning english)

Fun Comedic Drama
The quality of the images and subtitles in the movie are clear and smooth! The story takes a serious look at people's desires and motivations, but it does so in the form of a fun comedic drama.
