In Italian with English subtitles.

A romantic drama partially set in Amsterdam, this standard tale starts out in a mining area in Holland where conditions are about as rough as they get. Two of the miners, Italians Federico (Lino Ventura) and Vincenzo (Bernard Fresson) take off together for the city's red-light district, where the women pose in windows for prospective customers. There the duo meet Else (Marina Vlady) and Carrel (Magali Noel) who are willing to leave their windows to spend a weekend at a resort with the two men. Soon Else has fallen in love with Vincenzo and the future of the two hookers, as well as the miners, seems to look brighter.

5 of 5 WONDERFUL SITE! March 26, 2020
Reviewer: PAUL BARRETT from LITITZ, PA United States
I have purchased several dozen movies from here over the last few months & I have yet to be disappointed. Every vintage foreign film (mainly French or Italian) I have watched has been excellent in every way - video clarity, sound, and especially the hard-to-find clear & well-translated English captions that one can seldom find on sites like Amazon.

4 of 5 Gritty February 23, 2014

Director's experience with documentaries is evident. Really good scenes in the coal mines; miners crouched or prone, choking on coal dust, crushed by cave-ins, smothering as the air thins out. Those familiar with Amsterdam will recognize the red-light district straightaway; not much has changed in 50+ years except that most of the hookers are now slaves from eastern Europe. Ventura cast slightly against type, but successfully.
