This is one of several biographical films by the famed Italian neorealist director
Roberto Rossellini. The script is based on Platonic dialogues and the few known historical facts about the philosopher Socrates. Socrates was a key figure in the history of Western thought, and his method of inquiry sets the tone for serious philosophical inquiry down to the present day. This film presents his life in a documentary style, focussing on the final years of his life.
