Some of the best directors in France, Jean-Luc Godard,
Claude Chabrol, Jacques Demy, and
Philippe de Broca among them, each took one of seven different sketches (at approximately fifteen minutes each) to illustrate the seven cardinal sins in this interesting compilation film with an accent on comedy. Among the set of seven sins are "Lust" in which two young men at a sidewalk cafe indulge in discussing the topic, and "Avarice" in which a student wins some time with a hooker but not before some intense competition. "Gluttony" is about a family all set to go to a funeral when hunger pangs strike. Most of the skits are sharp, to the point, and witty. Familiar European stars also take their turns at heading up the cast, including
Marina Vlady,
Jean-Louis Trintignant, and Eddie Constantine.
