A pretentious, gorgeous Eurotrash masterpiece based on an (in)famous Jacobean “exploitation†tragedy. Lots of eye candy: settings, actors, costumes, etc. Played seriously for spectacle but not much substance. Still, for what it is, very well done.

An Italian film of a 17th cent. English drama

This is based on the most infamous of the Jacobean dramas---one both melodramatic and thunderous. This film, however, largely reduces the poetry and the melodrama. It emphasizes the original's plot: basically, a Romeo and Juliet love story---but with a brother and sister! Such a premise can still shock us; that, plus Ford's bloodbath finale are enough to make this movie very compelling

Shakespeare must of inspired this. The style seemed to indicate this was filmed in the 40's

Very handsome adaptation of the sensational old play - and it creates some sensations of its own, in a very Seventies way. Well worth seeing.
