Widescreen. Wifemistress stars Laura Antonelli as the wife of political activist Marcello Mastroianni. When her husband has to go into hiding from the authorities, Laura consoles herself by going through his private papers. Curiously, discovering the length and breadth of Mastrioanni's activities - including his extramarital affairs -- sparks a sexual reawakening in his wife. More curious is the personality change undergone by Laura: formerly meek and subservient, she literally "becomes" her firebrand husband in his absence. As for Mastrioanni, once his role in life has been usurped, he is reduced to little more than a sideline observer of his former life.

I saw this wonderful movie many years ago, and since lost the DVD.  I searched the internet, and only found a copy dubbed in English. That version is regretfully disappointing -- we NEED the Italian dialogue! But until now, thanks to MovieDetective, I have the desired version! I have not watched it fully - only the beginning, to assure the Italian language version - but what I have thus far seen and heard, I am happy.  The video quality is not perfect (not HD) but more than adequate.
This is a thrilling and deeply emotional story - as Laura Antonelli's character emerges from her bed to witness her husband's life in a vicarious way, as he simultaneously witnesses her witnessing! That's all I'll say -- but it is a true Masterpeice!

This movie detective copy is the movie on a plain dvd.  That being said, it worked well, had the subtitles, and was good quality watched all the way through on my TV/dvd player.  The movie I ordered, is one I had seen 25 years ago and I was honestly impressed with the quality of the movie as well as the image quality.  It is a great film and has survived the test of time well.  Happy camper.
